Yellow Swallowtail
30 Day Writing Challenge: Day 23

"In Chinese legend seeing a butterfly can mean a soul has come to see you from the other side, so if a face or a voice comes into your mind it is the soul of that person acknowledging you and letting you know that they are around you."
Ever since Elijah's passing, I have never seen so many butterflies, moreover, been so close to them than I have before. It is actually very common for people to see butterflies and other animals (that visits regularly) after a passing, as they are the messengers of passed on loved ones.

It is said that if you whisper to a butterfly that it will carry your message to Heaven.

I also had a dream of butterflies! It showed me two large butterflies hovering above my hand and a small "baby" one on top. How sweet is that?

There are a few particular butterfly species that have visited me many times, especially the common buckeye, which is the first one that appeared to me where Elijah's Tree is planted and often visits me today. (I have posted many butterfly visits on social media.)

However, there is one special butterfly that always reminds me of Elijah. It was a butterfly that I saw for the very first time and when I was pregnant with him.

The Yellow Swallowtail.

Its yellow color reminds me of this yellow baby painting I made before I knew of Elijah's gender and the combination of black and yellow reminds of a tiger (even though tigers are orange and black, I know that!) It's just that if you focus intently on the black stripes, they look comparable to a tiger's stripes.

Every time I see this butterfly, it is usually occasional and sometimes rare. It even appeared on the day that my husband and I went to the Muir Woods Overlook for Elijah's first birthday.

I don't know what it is about this butterfly that gives me this feeling of Elijah, but I do know that it is somehow connected to his spirit. Might I add that there are many who see animals as a connection to spirits of loved ones.

There was also this one day that my husband and I went fishing and while a bee was swarming all over him (because of fish bait), a yellow swallowtail flew to my belly and was fluttering around me! I was excited! And honestly, I get a little scared when butterflies fly a little too close for my liking, (there was also another day that I was taking out the trash and this monarch flew straight and fast into my direction) but they always bring me a sense of child-like energy and joy, especially the swallowtail.

When I see the yellow butterfly, I just know that Elijah is sending me some kind of comfort and reminder to enjoy life and that he is always there. It always makes me happy when butterflies appear.
